Counting Down to Summer Break
Are you counting down until summer break?
How many more wake ups do you have?
Student behavior can be tricky to manage at the end of the school year as summer approaches.
The students are so excited for summer and most are counting down the days.
There is so much to do – all those fun end of the year activities, cleaning the classroom, final grades and report cards, etc!
Do you need a way to keep your students on track with their behavior during those long May and June days?
Summer Countdown Chain
Connect your Summer Countdown to your classroom or your school rules.
I used my school’s PBIS rules – ROAR – respectful, organized, achieving, and responsible – and tied it to this summer countdown chain.
It encouraged my students to continue to show those behaviors during those long and crazy days!
Each chain link had a reward – homework pass, bring a game from home, prize box, write in marker, sit next to a friend, etc.
I started the Summer Countdown Chain with enough days left in the school year for all of the students to cut a link once.
When I had 23 students in my class, I started the chain with 24 days left. The last day of school reward is for everyone.
I hung the chain in a visible place in my room.
At the end of the day, I picked a student who showed their ROARing behavior. I made sure each student got a chance to cut the chain once.
The student who cut the chain got the reward that was on the inside of their chain link.
If your students are struggling with end-of-the-year excitement, try this Summer Countdown Chain to encourage them to continue following school rules!
